Views on the Independence Trail East, along/above Hwy 49.
We saw a lot of Sierra Newts, slowly ambling along the trail. They may or may not be poisonous, depending on the actual species.

This huge rock over the trail
Wildflowers dotted along the trail
The trail has several bridges/catwalks, with lots of the structures soundly intact. Everything felt stable— there are a few boards missing, but nothing you can’t sidestep.

We scooted down to check out the rocks under the footbridge. The water was warmer than expected (we expected icy melt, so a touch warmer than ‘blue lips in 10 seconds’), and it was a lovely, sunny scene.
